Since it set up in November 2018 Pincamp, the winner of the VIR Innovation Award 2019, the competition for tourism startups, has been working hard to ensure that users can book camping holidays – initially in Germany, to be followed by neighbouring European countries popular with campers. The booking platform is to go online soon. Pincamp is the camping website of the motoring organisation ADAC. In early 2020 Pincamp is due to expand onto its first foreign market – Switzerland.
According to Uwe Frers, the platform’s managing director, Pincamp concentrates all of ADAC’s camping information, including on Europe’s best camping sites, the inspections conducted of 5,500 camping sites to date, undertaken personally by professional experts and based on 400 items per site, and will supplement this with “genuine stories from camping enthusiasts, travel reports and inspiring information.“ In November 2018 the Berlin-based startup began moving the ADAC world of camping into the digital age. Pincamp, a multi award-winning company, belongs to ADAC SE.
Rising demand and stagnating supply
Besides digitalisation, the other challenge for the camping industry that managing director Uwe Frers sees is a rising demand for mobile home parking sites in the face of stagnating availability. In in-demand regions they are already in short supply. Pincamp wants users to be able to book their camping holidays early using any device. The managing director is proud of Pincamp’s statistics: it lists over 9,000 camping sites at 8,000 destinations in Europe and posts more than 30,000 user ratings online. In January 2020, in partnership with Touring Club Schweiz (TCS), Frers expanded onto his first foreign market – Switzerland, the country next door. ’Pincamp powered by TCS’ will also provide all its content in French and Italian on www.pincamp.ch.
